SUMMARY:
Responsible for planning instruction and/or adapting the educational program to enable the special students to benefit from educational experiences. (Special Teachers plan for least restrictive learning environment and free appropriate public education.)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties may be assigned.
- Instructs individual special students and small groups in IEP directed instruction.
- Plans curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods.
- Evaluates/Monitors student progress in and outside of special education rooms.
- Maintains contact and has a good working relationship with parents of special students.
- Keeps regular staff members informed of student needs and learning styles.
- Often participates in Class-Within-A-Class educational opportunities.
- Formally evaluates students.
- Maintains student Brown folder.
- Attends initial reevaluation staffings of students.
- Completes all meetings and paperwork within compliance guidelines.
- Prepares IEPs and makes sure all staff members and parents received the final copy of the IEP.
- Accommodates students individual needs on the State and District Wide Testing as directed by the IEP.
- Problem Solve with parents and school staff when a special student is experiencing difficulties.
- Evaluates twice a year paraprofessionals that work under their supervision.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises students and paraprofessionals that are assigned to their rooms.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in special education
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Teaching certificate for the State of Missouri in Special Education
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine+ month employee on twelve-month contract. Salary to be established by the Board of Education.
